Medicare Coverage Changes in Coös County for 2027

Have a Medicare Advantage plan? Review your coverage now.

The New Hampshire Insurance Department has announced that no Medicare Advantage plans will be available in Coös County in 2027, affecting approximately 2,760 current enrollees. This is a change in insurance plan availability throughout Coös County, not a change in which plans NCH accepts. NCH does not control insurers’ decisions about where to offer Medicare Advantage plans.

You are not losing Medicare. Original Medicare remains available. However, your prescription coverage, supplemental benefits, and out-of-pocket costs may change. Taking time to review your options now can help you prepare for coverage beginning January 1, 2027.

What This Means for You:

If you live in Coös County and currently have Medicare Advantage, review the notices from your insurance company to understand when your plan ends and what happens next.

Original Medicare includes Part A hospital insurance and Part B medical insurance. If you return to Original Medicare, you should also review:

  • Prescription drug coverage: You may need a separate Medicare Part D plan. Medicare Supplement insurance does not include prescription drug coverage.
  • Supplemental coverage: Medicare Supplement insurance, also called Medigap, can help pay certain costs that Original Medicare does not cover.
  • Your total costs: Compare premiums, deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance, along with prescription expenses.
  • Ongoing care: Confirm how the change may affect treatment, medical equipment, and services that currently require authorization.

If you already have Original Medicare, the absence of Medicare Advantage plans does not mean your Original Medicare coverage is ending.

What to Do Now:

  1. Read and keep your insurance notices.
These explain changes to your plan and may help establish your enrollment rights.
  2. Gather your information.
Have your medication list, pharmacy information, healthcare providers’ names, and insurance notices available when seeking help.
  3. Ask for individual guidance.
Ask how your prescriptions and ongoing care will be covered, what your total costs may be, and whether you qualify for help paying Medicare expenses.
  4. Confirm your rights and deadlines.
People whose plans are ending may have special enrollment rights and protections for purchasing certain Medigap policies without medical underwriting. Ask which protections apply to you and when you must act.
  5. Confirm coverage dates.
Do not cancel existing coverage before understanding when it ends and when replacement coverage will begin.

Important Enrollment Dates:

October 15 through December 7, 2026: Medicare’s annual enrollment period for reviewing and changing coverage for the coming year.

Additional enrollment opportunities may apply when a plan ends or stops serving your area. Deadlines for prescription coverage and Medigap protections can differ. Get guidance about your circumstances now rather than waiting until January.
